Attack condemned

ITANAGAR, Nov 17: While condemning the Nov 9 cowardice attack on EoA office  and its associate editor Tapan Kr Das, Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society wishes speedy recovery to Das, an active APLS member and said media should be allowed to function freely for the state to develop.

All Capital Complex Auto Welfare Association also strongly condemned the attack on Echo of Arunachal office and its Associate Editor. Terming the act as barbaric and inhuman, Association demanded for exemplary punishment to the culprits involved in the attack case. It also said that civil society and students organizations should come forward and raise voice against the attack on media.

 

School kids injured in road mishap

ITANAGAR, Nov 17: At least 10 Kidzee school children and two teaching staff received injuries in a road accident when a Tata Safari vehicle (registration no. AR 01E-7765) hit the school van near Pasighat today. The accident happens when the speeding Safari was trying to overtake the school van at around 8.50 am at 2 mile area, Pasighat. The driver of the vehicle also injured seriously. There are 16 kids in the vehicle.  An FIR was lodged at Pasighat police station in this regard.

Meanwhile, the parents expressed their gratitude to one Tahan Taggu for extending help to the injured kids and also appealed to the police department to investigate the matter and give justice to the victims.

 

Students donate blood

ITANAGAR, Nov 17: A total 23 units of blood were collected in a voluntary blood donation camp organized by Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University Galo Students’ Union (RGUGSU) under the aegis of APSACS at Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun Blood Bank today.

Chief Medical Superintendent of Arunachal State Hospital, thanked RGUGSU for their active cooperation and successful conduction of the program. The president of RGUGSU has also expressed their willingness to participate in such type of programs in future too.  

 

House gutted in fire

ITANAGAR, Nov 17:  The dwelling house of one Rapkho Mossang of Borkhet village, about 14 km from Bordumsa was completely gutted along with properties in a devastating fire yesterday at 6:30 pm. However, the fire was doused by the villagers before it spread to other nearby houses.

Meanwhile, Bordumsa ADC Kento Riba rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. He directed the Bordumsa police to enquire into the cause of the fire and submit a detailed report. He has also constituted a board to assess the loss of property in the fire.

Local administration provided Rs 10,000 and other relief materials to the fire victims.

 

Doimukh MLA visits villages in Kimin area

ITANAGAR,  Nov  17:  Doimukh  Assembly constituency MLA Nabam Rebia visited Bukka, Bello –I and Bello –II villages under  Kimin circle on Nov 16 and  took stock of development activities.  He was accompanied by Papum Pare DC, EAC, CO and heads of the  department and the members of All Kimin-Kakoi Youth Welfare Association (AKKYWA) during his visit, according to an association release.

The local people apprise the MLA of various problems being faced by the villagers,  particularly  in the sphere of socio-economic development. The Association, however,  extended its gratitude to the  MLA and Govt officers for the their visit to the villages.   

 

Cleanliness drive

ITANAGAR, Nov 17: Assembly Youth Congress (AYC) of Yachuli has conducted a cleanliness drive at Primary Health Centre, Yachuli on November 14 to mark the children day celebration. Medical Officer of Yachuli PHC Dr. Tana That Tara said that such cleanliness drive should continue in regular interval in every institution and public places. AYCC Yachuli president, vice president and general secretary had also participated in cleanliness drive.

 

Training prog for tea and rubber growers

ITANAGAR, Nov 17: Agriculture Technology Management Agency organized a Training Program for tea and rubber growers at Mahadevpur, Lohit on November 15 last.

The resource persons from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat gave detailed presentations on scientific cultivation practices of Tea and Rubber.

The training program was attended by 75 Tea and Rubber growers from Mahadevpur, Namsai and Chongkham.

 

GSU reacts

ITANAGAR, Nov 17: Reacting to the clarification given by the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh on its various demands, including creation of Lower Siang district, the Galo Student’s Union (GSU) termed the Govt. clarification as just a poor excuse.

 Expressing dissatisfaction over the statement, GSU in a release questioned that if the Govt. is really concerned about the creation of Lower Siang District, why the CM  does not declare the district first? It claimed that Kurung Kumey and Anjaw districts were created without finalizing their headquarters by then CMs. In regards to the clarification made by the state govt. on other issues, the GSU has decided to constitute a committee to look into the matter.  It threatened to launch rigorous democratic movement if the demands were not fulfilled.

Nation has lost a veteran leader in Thackeray's death: Prez

Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray dead

MUMBAI/ NEW DELHI, Nov 17: Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray, who was critically ill for the past few days, passed away at his residence 'Matoshree' in suburban Bandra today. He was 86.

 "He had suffered a cardiac arrest. We could not revive him despite our best efforts. He breathed his last at around 3:30 PM," Dr Jalil Parkar, who treated the Sena supremo, told reporters after emerging from Thackeray residence this evening.  Thackeray had been suffering from respiratory problems and pancreatic disease. He is survived by sons Jaidev and Uddhav, who is the Executive President of the party.

Senior party leaders and Bal Thackeray's nephew Raj Thackeray along with family and other political leaders rushed to 'Matoshree'.

President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday condoled the death of Bal Thackeray saying the nation has lost a veteran leader who worked to help the common man.

In his condolence letter to Thackeray's son Uddhav, the President said he was 'extremely sad to learn about the passing away' of   Balasaheb Thackeray.

"Shri Thackeray's passing away is a loss for the people of Maharashtra and India. In his death, the nation has lost a veteran leader who worked to help the common man and whose contributions in the field of media added a different perspective to the political discourse," the President said in his letter.

Mukherjee, while offering his condolences to the family and numerous followers of Thackeray, said he prayed 'to give you and your family the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss.'

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed his condolences over the death of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and cancelled his dinner on Saturday night with the BJP leaders. "For him the interests of Maharashtra were particularly important and he always strived to inculcate a sense of pride in its people. He founded the Shiv Sena and built the party into a formidable force in the State politics with his strong leadership," said Manmohan in a statement.

The Prime Minister described Thackeray as a "consummate communicator, whose stature in the politics of Maharashtra was unique."

UPA Chief Sonia Gandhi also expressed grief over Thackeray's death. "Shiv Sena was known because after his name. We pray for his family and supporters. May the almighty give them power to pass through this tough phase," said Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi.

The 86-year-old Thackeray, who founded the Shiv Sena in 1966 to fight for the rights of Maharashtrians, was suffering from lungs and pancreatic ailments and had been put on life-support system for the last few days. Announcing his death outside Thackeray residence 'Matoshree', the doctor said that Balasaheb breathed his last at 3.30 pm on Saturday.

Life virtually came to a halt in several parts of Maharashtra following the death of Shiv Sena supremo.

Shopkeepers and hoteliers downed shutters immediately after the news of his death.

There were some stray incidents of stone pelting in some areas in Mumbai and Thane. Taxis and autos were off the roads while local trains and BEST buses were plying in Mumbai though BEST authorities suspended operations in select areas where incidents of stone pelting were reported. Officegoers tried to rush back to their homes as the news of Thackeray's death spread.

The central railway has cancelled the mega block on both Central and Harbour lines in Mumbai on Sunday to help the people to attend the last rites of the departed leader.

Cabs and autos which remained off the roads today at the airport would also not operate tomorrow as a mark of respect for the departed leader, authorities said.

Reports coming from many cities including Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad and parts of Konkan said that shops and restaurants remained closed there and autos were off the roads after the news of Thackeray's death was received.

Security was beefed up across Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai where 20,000 police personnel were deployed, to keep a tight vigil following the death of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.

"The entire police force is on an alert in Maharashtra. Lakhs of people are expected to visit Mumbai to take a last glimpse of Thackeray," a senior police official at Maharashtra Police Headquarters said.

In Mumbai alone, over 20,000 city police, 15 companies of State Reserve Police Force and three contingents of Rapid Action Force have been deployed.

"The funeral procession will begin tomorrow at 7 AM. We have deployed enough number of police force at Sena Bhavan in Dadar, Matoshree in Bandra and at Shivaji Park where the last respects would be paid," Mumbai Police commissioner Satyapal Singh said.

Appropriate arrangements have been made at the Shivaji Park where VIPs are also expected to reach to pay homage tomorrow, Singh added. PTI

 

 

Attackers on CO will not be spared: Govt

ITANAGAR, Nov 17: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has expressed concern over the incident of assault on Gyamar Amte, Circle Officer at Koloriang inflicting grievous injuries.

On directions of the Chief Minister, his Political Secretary Bamang Tago today visited the injured officer at the RK Mission Hospital here and handed over a cash of Rs 50,000 for his treatment.

Taking strong note of the violence, the State Government has condemned the dastardly act and assured that those responsible will not be spared.

Conveying a message of regret and sympathy to the recuperating officer from the Chief Minister, Tago said that the government will extend all possible help for his recovery. He informed that strict directives have been given to the state police to nab the culprits at the earliest. Police investigation is on full swing and an operation launched to track down and arrest the culprits.

“Such attacks on government officials will demoralize them, which would ultimately effect their contribution for development and welfare of the people. Therefore, we should all condemn such acts and help police to nab those responsible,” Tago appealed.

 

 

IFCSAP workshop resolve to promote indigenous faith

ITANAGAR, Nov 17: The Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) conducted its first ever workshop on Indigenous Faith and Culture at Scout and Guide Training Centre, Polo-Colony, Naharlagun on November 12 last.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by Nabam Atum, Chief Advisor of IFCSAP cum Vice President of North East Janjati Faith and Cultural Protection Forum.

The workshop was attended by more than 50 delegates from 14 district units and around 60 members from various prayer centres of twin capital and AVP.

The objective of the workshop was to ensure respect for indigenous faith and culture at grassroots level and its development.

Resource persons Nabum Atum, Taba Hare, Tage Taki, Gyati Rana and Amoso Khamblai gave a brainstorming and thought provoking deliverance on the approach and techniques to ensure speedy development of indigenous faith and culture while giving due respect to other religions and faiths.

Attending the valedictory function Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Chairman Jalley Sonam lauded the efforts of IFCSAP for preservation of indigenous faiths and culture. He appealed to respect the indigenous priests and social workers who are relentlessly working for the preservation, protection and promotion of Indigenous faith and culture.

 

 

Ering visits remotest village, assures road link

YINGKIONG, Nov 17:  Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninnong Ering visited “Pekii-Modi” the remotest village in Mariyang subdivision of Upper Siang on 15 November. He reached the village on foot covering a distance of about 38 km from Mariyang.

Addressing the villagers, he said that the purpose of his visit was to follow the foot print of his late father Daying Ering, who during his tenure at Raabuk (Damro) as APO II visited this village in the year 1959. It was during that period late Daying Ering gave the name “Pekii-Modi” and used to sing in Adi Popular Luman-Ponung, “Daalo Kampo Ge Pekii-Modi Soyide Daalo Kampo” which is still remembered and sung by all.

The minister was interested to see the village where his late father visited as APO II 53 years ago, who had special love and affection towards the people of this remote and hilly village. Beside other demands, the Union Minister assured road connectivity to the village which would be his top priority agenda. The minister suggested the villagers to shift their village, which bears high risks in the event of any natural calamity, to Rang-Ging or any other safer place by renaming it as “NEW PEKII-MODI to maintain the age-old identity as well as for all round development.

The minister announced Rs. 3 lakh for survey of the proposed new road construction from Millang to Pekii-Modi.

Earlier, the Union Minister addressed public meeting at Damro and Mariyang on November 14 where he announced Rs. 50,00,00 for construction of a multipurpose community hall (Damey Musup). The Minister also announced Rs. 2 crore for construction of a Mini Stadium at Mariyang in memory of his late father Dr. D. Ering.

Responding to the demand for a road between Damro and Dambuk via Pesang, the minister entrusted the PWD department and local administration to conduct a survey and submit the detailed report soon. He announced a sanction of Rs 3 lakh for construction of a store for D.P. Gangging, Rs 10 lakh for RCC fencing for Govt. H.S. School, Mariyang.

On his way to Damro-Mariyang, the Minister also visited Adi-Pasi (Sibuk) village.

The minister was accompanied by Tuting-Yingkiong MLA Alo Libang, DC L Borang, SDO Mariyang, ZPM Mariyang and many officers and public leaders from Mariyang and Yingkiong. DIPRO

 

 

Myriad problems plaguing fishery department

PASIGHAT, Nov 17: At a time when the scientists are advocating for improved technology to boost fish production in East Siang district, the Fishery Development Department in the district is handicapped by acute shortage of staff and other requirements.

The authority’s alleged inaction for infrastructure development of the department and implementation of Fishery Act, 2006, is causing a great deal of dissatisfaction among the fish farmers and the department officials as well.

Information has revealed that the Fishery Department in the district is running without insufficient staff. Moreover, paucity of fund for infrastructure development is reportedly hampered the extension works in the Department.

The district office at Pasighat is presently functioning with two officers, including the District Fishery Development Officer (DFDO), one Fishery Officer (FO) and some lower grade officials. Posts of two FOs, three Extension Officers and some Assistant Officers/Demonstrators of block and circle level are lying vacant for the years. Since the DFDO is the only gazetted post, the FO is incompetent to take in-charge under any circumstance. Moreover, the only FO is unable to look after entire works in the district.

Citing the problems in the department, the DFDO of Pasighat Marngu Kadu informed that he had moved the concerning minister for up-gradation of the FO to Sub-Divisional Fishery Officer. He also demanded the authority for creating a post of Joint Director in the district office for smooth conduct of the official activities.

The DFDO during January this year moved the concerning minister for fund against construction of boundary wall around the Government Fish Farm at Pasighat and nearby Panekorong, extension of office building and construction of officers’ quarters. Besides these, he had also moved for implementation of Fishery Act, to empower the Department to rule over fishery mahals and riverine fishes, fixation of fish prices based on quality checking and allotment of land for provisional construction of staff quarters.

Officials informed that an area of land measuring more than 60 hectare has been covered under fishery in the district where about 160 active farmers enhancing their household economy by rearing various fishes. The district fishery department is implementing centrally sponsored schemes like, ‘Fish Farmer Development Scheme’, ‘Fisherman Welfare Scheme’ and Integrated Fish Farming. The first includes construction and development of fish pond while the second and third include construction of dwelling house for the registered fish farmers and Integrated Fish Farming of pig and fish and duck and fish.

 

 

3rd State Shito-Ryu Karate Championship begins

ITANAGAR, Nov 17: The 3rd State Level Shito-Ryu Karate Do Championship began at Indoor Stadium of Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy at Chimpu near here today.

A total of 126 players from Anjaw, Lohit, Upper Subansiri West Siang, Lower Subansiri, Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy, Arunachal Pradesh Police, HQs Itanagar and branch clubs from Naharlagun and Nirjuli are participating in the two days championship.

The inaugural function held today morning was attended by Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Constructions Workers Welfare Board Chairman Jalley Sonam and Sports Authority of Arunachal Vice Chairman Likha Tara as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.

In his brief but inspirational speech, Sonam advised the budding players to maintain strict discipline, practice hard and focus on techniques of the sport to perform better. He hoped that karate players, under the able guidance of Arunachal Karate-Do Association (AKA), would bring more laurels to the state by winning more and more medals in national and international championship. Sonam offered few amounts to the organizer for light refreshments for the players.

SAA vice chairman Tara also delivered few words of advice to the participating players. He appreciated Arunachal Shito-Ryu Karate Do Association (ASKA) for organizing the championship very smoothly.

ASKA president Dr. Marli Ete highlighted the achievements of ASKA in various competitions since its inception. He also mentioned the names of the players, who have brought laurels to the state by winning medals at various competitions.

AKA General Secretary L Marik, ASKA General Secretary Charu Tatung also spoke on the occasion.

Arunachal Tenshinkan Shotokan-Ryu Karate Do Association President Tai Hipik also attended the function among others.

 

 

Bogong Banggo wins Odam Ering memorial football tourney

PASIGHAT, Nov 17: Bogong Banggo Soccer Club won the ‘Odam Ering Memorial Football Tournament defeating Lengong Banggo Soccer Club by solitary goal in the final at General Ground here yesterday.

The all important goal was scored by Ote Komut in the second half.

The winner and runners up teams were awarded cash prizes of Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively besides individual prizes to the best player and goal keeper.

Legong Banggo and Bogong Banggo entered the final defeating Doying Gumin and Bosing Bango in semifinals respectively.

As many as 20 football teams from different parts of East Siang district and neighbouring state Assam participated in the tournament.

East Siang Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra, several local dignitaries, including Tabi Jerang, Tajom Tasing, Tabuk Dai, veteran footballers and soccer lovers enjoyed the final match.

The tournament is an annual football event conducted in memory of Odam Ering, wife of late Dr Daying Ering and mother of Union Minister Ninong Ering.

 

 

MLA seeks cooperation for development

YINGKIONG, Nov 17: local MLA Alo Libang accompanied by Deputy Commissioner L. Borang visited Gobuk village yesterday and held a public meeting with the Gaon Buras, PRI members and the villagers to get first hand knowledge about various problems of the villagers.

The villagers demanded for Hydropower Project over Yammeng river, early start of highway road construction work, installation of BSNL tower at Gobuk, establishment of a Medical Sub-centre, renovation of Gobuk Dere (Musup) etc. Responding to the demands, the MLA assured the villagers to take up their demands with the authorities concerned on the basis of genuineness. He suggested all the grassroots level leaders and common people to cooperate with the government officers and officials to implement all the development schemes properly and judiciously.

Deputy Commissioner Borang appealed to the villagers and land owners to donate the land required by the Army for their wireless telephone station. He said that construction works of the Highway will be started soon and no body should put any hindrance in construction works for the greater interest of all.

Education is a tool to bring social transformation: DC

AALO,  Nov 17: The Darak Secondary School has not only produced intellectuals but also brought about social transformation, said West Siang Deputy Commissioner Marnya Ete while inaugurating the Commemoration Pillar on the closing day of the Golden Jubilee Celebration on Nov 16.

Addressing a huge gathering he said “what we need today is good education supported by congenial teaching-learning atmosphere to bring out good citizens for our society”. The school, which traversed long five decades as a centre of learning for the people of Lodu Bango has withstood to bring light of education in this interior Circle, he said  and stressed on collective efforts for further expansion and improvement of education.

Responding to rampant encroachments of government land within the circle, the DC advised formation of committee to work out plan for establishment of different department. Encroachment of Govt. land will not be tolerated, he added. The DC also visited school and CO office and heard the grievances placed by the teachers and Circle Officer, Darak.

Rakshap Yomcha, retired DIGP said that development does not mean monetary flow and budgetary support from the government but streamlining the development process initiated by state and central governments.

Emphasizing the need to educate the PRI leaders on development schemes and core issues of rural masses at grass root level,  he  said it is important to see that  benefit of all govt. schemes reach to the poor masses. Hento Karga EAC Liromaoba and Gedo Kato, President DCCI stressed on the importance of education.

International Year of Cooperatives

KV–I students win the debate competition

ITANAGAR, Nov 17:  The students of KV No -I, Naharlagun won  the 1st and 2nd prize in the debate competition on the topic “Cooperative Enterprises-  the Emerging Economic Backbone of the Developing Countries” organized to mark the celebration of the “International Year of Cooperative 2012” at Polo Park, Naharlagun today. The 3rd prize goes to Kangkarnallah Govt  H S School.  Two speakers from among the participants in favour of motion and against the motion were selected  for best speakers prizes. The prizes  carry cash amount, certificates along with study materials which will be distributed in the valedictory function of the celebration on Nov 20. Besides  the students of KV No-I and Kangkarnallah Govt  H S school,  the  students of Govt Secondary School, Polo Colony participated in the competition.

Various competitive events are being organized during the IYC celebration in order to create awareness  on the socio-economic impact of cooperatives and  encourage the formation  and growth of cooperatives in the state.
